ENGLISH TRANSLATION HEREUNDER

Après avoir quitté le Chelsea Motor Inn, nous nous dirigeons vers la Main Street pour petit-déjeuner. Nous n’avions pas fait 4 mètres que JC et Rose Abram nous accostent. Nous restons un instant avec le patron du garage Chub’s Tire, un instant qui nous fera arriver pile au moment du passage du train. « Vite ! Un train ! » lance-je à Didier. Cet instant et ces mots vont bouleverser notre journée…

Cela fait des jours que Didier espère filmer un train et si possible avec Michel dans le plan. Là, Michel n’est pas là mais l’occasion est trop belle pour rater ce moment.
Je pourrais écrire « check » dans ma liste mais nous ne sommes pas convaincus. Du coup, après le déjeuner au Main Street Dinner, nous décidons d’abandonner le groupe pour rester au passage à niveau et filmer à notre aise un futur train.

Pam Stanbro nous voit et s’arrête pour discuter avec nous. Elle reconduit son petit-fils Spencer à sa maman. Pam est une ambassadrice de la ville de Chelsea, elle travaille aussi pour le journal local. En tant qu’ambassadrice, elle tente de redonner du dynamisme et de l’attractivité à sa ville. Quelques minutes plus tôt, j’avais rencontré Jerry Mizer avec qui nous avions discuté du fait que tous les commerces du centre étaient fermés. La cause pour Jerry étant l’arrivée de Walmart et la délocalisation des usines. Il voyait d’un très bon œil le volonté de Donald Trump de rouvrir les mines à charbons. Pour Pam, l’avenir de Chelsea ne passe pas par les mines mais par le tourisme. Elle est passée par un simple constat : le nombre de touristes qui emprunte la route 66 et le fait que Chelsea ne soit pas un spot important sur la carte de la route. Du coup, avec d’autres habitants, ils ont nettoyé les rues, restauré un passage souterrain, installé des bannières « Route 66 – Chelsea » le long de la route et sont en train de racheter une maison pour en faire un musée.

Deux heures plus tard, nous sommes toujours au passage à niveau. On s’amuse bien avec Pam et Spencer mais aucun train ne passe ! Ils sont coincés dans la ville voisine. Nous décidons de lever le camp et d’avancer.

Quelques kilomètres plus loin, nous croisons Michel sur son vélo et un train qui roule à du deux à l’heure. Nous cherchons un spot pour arrêter la voiture et écrire un plan. Les garçons se placent d’un côté du passage à niveau. Moi, je reste de l’autre côté avec la voiture. Les trains aux États-Unis sont très très longs. Vous en avez pour 10 minutes d’attente avant qu’il ne soit entièrement passé. Je rencontre le Santa Claus de l’Oklahoma. Nous rions ensemble sans se rendre compte du drame qui se déroule de l’autre côté de la voie du chemin de fer : la batterie de la caméra a lâché. Impossible pour les garçons de revenir à la voiture et pourtant le plan était parfait car Michel était arrivé avec le train.
Michel s’arrête auprès des garçons pour se plaindre de ce tronçon de route : il s’est fait engueuler par trois types car il roulait trop lentement, les bas côtés sont remplis de déchets qui sont très dangereux pour son vélo. Didier et Geoffroy n’ont aucun matériel sonore pour capturer ces paroles. Le matériel est avec moi qui suis toujours avec Santa Claus. Son épouse est en train de m’inviter à manger chez eux à Thanksgiving et elle m’apprend les différents accents de la région.

Le train passé, je découvre les garçons désabusés. Il faut faire vite et trouver un nouvel endroit pour refaire le plan. Malheureusement, quelques mètres plus loin, les rails du train s’écartent de la route disparaissant dans le paysage. Il est temps pour nous de quitter cette idée et de nous focaliser sur notre personnage qui visite le McClellan-Kerr Nav. System à Verdigris et la fameuse Blue Whale.

Mais nous voulons ce plan. Du coup, nous quittons Michel et nous traçons vers Tulsa, notre destination, où Geoffroy à découvert sur le net un passage à niveau à trois voies.
Nous nous positionnons et le destin nous apportera tout ce que nous avons attendu cette journée : une locomotive tirant de nombreux wagons remplis de charbon, croisant un autre très long train allant à du deux à l’heure, le tout rehaussé par le skyline de Tulsa et un magnifique couché de soleil.

Le soir, nous décidons d’aller fêter cette belle journée dans le downtown où nous découvrons des quartiers sympas avec des bars et restos trendy. Après avoir très bien mangé (japonais) au Yokozuna, les frères Minne décident de se confronter à la population locale au billard. Quant à moi, j’ai été assisté au spectacle drag du Club Majestic où ils reprenaient en intégralité la comédie musicale The Rocky Horror Picture Show de 1975 et suis ensuite allé à la recherche des teenagers de Larry Clark au Renegate. Je ne les ai pas vraiment retrouvés. La jeunesse 2017 boit, twerk, se dénude, swerk, rit, swerlk.
